UNIFY CORPORATION PROVIDES FIRST HIGH-END APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT ENVIRONMENT FOR SUN'S JAVASTATION

Unify VISION & VISION/Web enable Global 1000 companies to rapidly create business-critical applications for the JavaStation

NEW YORK, NY, -- October 29, 1996 -- Unify Corporation (NASDAQ: UNFY), a leading provider of client/server software solutions for the development, deployment, and management of high-end, business critical applications for intranets and the Internet, today announced that the Company is providing the first high-end applications development environment for Sun Microsystems' network computing device called the JavaStation™. The announcement was made as part of Sun's JavaStation launch.

Unify VISION and VISION/Web extend the potential for the JavaStation's rapid acceptance by providing a development environment for building high-end, business critical applications for the enterprise. Because Unify VISION automatically generates Java™, developers benefit from the write once-deploy anywhere phenomenon of Java.

As a leading, high-end development environment, VISION was designed to create business-critical applications. VISION's distributed capabilities -- including dynamic partitioning and automatic failover, and industry leading application management -- make it the only development environment for the JavaStation focused on the business-critical applications which global 1000 companies, including telecommunications, transportation and financial services organizations, use to run their businesses.

Unify's VISION/Web can quickly deploy pure Java applications using a high-end development environment; a feature that is attractive to many corporate users. VISION's transaction-based, rapid development technology makes it a compelling environment in which to develop applications for the JavaStation.

"Applications that are developed in VISION and run on the JavaStation will allow businesses to realize tremendous cost savings," said Reza Mikailli, president and CEO of Unify Corporation. "Organizations can now take advantage of Web-based applications that require access to information on existing corporate network servers. We are pleased to be the only high-end development tool selected to participate in the launch and look forward to participating in making Java and the JavaStation ubiquitous."

"Unify recognizes the critical necessity of using Java to deliver scalable, secure, transaction-based client/server business applications over the Web without compromise," Mikailli continued. "VISION treats the JavaStation as simply another client platform, letting developers create a single application that serves the entire enterprise -- including intranets and the Internet -- without an ounce of additional programming. Our partners, including Sun Microsystems, have many large corporate customers interested in deploying Java and are anxious to get their hands on a high-end development environment that hides the complexities of 3GLs and internet programming while producing robust, scalable, high-end client/server applications. Unify VISION provides this capability today."
